Blog Entry 13

The question that started Neo’s journey “you can take the blue pill or the red pill?” This question made it possible for him to move forward and find what he was looking for. The blue pill was to go back to where he was, his so called “real life”. The red pill was to find out about the matrix and be the chosen one. If I were in Neo’s position I would have chosen the red pill because the red pill because the red pill shows you “how far the rabbit hole goes”. There would be more meaning to my life if I found the real world instead of living in a fake world do the same thing every day.
In the movie Neo had a job as a computer programmer and a hacker but he didn’t enjoy either of them and he wanted to find something more. Knowing the matrix was unreal that job became useless and not meaningful. That made me think, if I took the blue pill and knew the matrix was fake all the hard work of going to school and getting the career I want, it wouldn’t even matter because it was fake. Weird things kept happening to neo and without knowing he took the red pill because he wanted to know more about the matrix, he jumped into the rabbit hole. Just like Neo I would search for something more.
The decision of taking the red pill would be risky but I would go crazy if I took the blue pill and regretted it. In the movie, there was a part where the guy was going to betray his team and Morpheus to go back to the fake world. He thought “ignorance was bliss.” He wanted to be rich and someone important but going into that world he would feel empty. After a while, even though it was though Neo pulled trough without regretting it. I wouldn’t want to regret my decision because taking the red pill was for meaning and importance. I never want to live my life thinking “what if”.
Neo didn’t really know what he was getting himself into but he found out about the real world and he liked it. He had meaning and importance and was accepted by everyone. The knowledge of computers got him there and was courageous and thrilled to be there but a little scared as well. He was referred as “the one”. The person who could save them, he was the hero. The feeling of importance and excitement to anyone’s life is something everyone strives for and need that to keep them sane. Being “the one” is a really important and comparing it to the computer programmer job, it was absolutely nothing.
It was one question that got him somewhere; he chose the res pill and found everything he was looking for. The red pill world would have been my decision too because I never want to regret it and live in a world where all my achievements wouldn’t mean anything. Working hard and trying to make it in life didn’t matter. It was a fake reality and those achievements would be gone.

Blog Entry: 12 Reflection

The experiences I had so far were great and in such a short period of time I’ve learned so much. I didn’t expect to have a class that was interesting and kept me participating. Everything wasn’t great, there were challenges but it kept me on my toes. I knew the class was fun and Mr. Smith was pretty easy going but never under estimated how much work there would be. There were many challenges and benefits of this class that made me a better writer. The movies and the stories were interesting enough to keep writing. There are still a few weeks of class to learn and improve.
The only think I can say I did well is finishing and posting the essays on the blogs on time. It seemed hard to write 400 words in and hour but as time went on, it got a lot easier. The pressure to write that much kept me concentrated and stopped me from procrastinating. The things Mr. Smith did that helped me is that he put the work on his blog that instructed what we had to do. There was no such a thing as wasting time. There was no time to waste and sometimes there wasn’t enough time. Mr. Smith surprised by being so technology savvy. Since most of the students have IPhones, blackberries, and Facebook accounts he made it possible for the students to use these tools as an advantage to be a better writer.
There were many challenges in the beginning; it was hard to keep up and concentrate. In the first two weeks all I wanted to do was leave because I wasn’t used to staying in class for a long time so I was the first one out. I actually saw improvements as the weeks passed. A bad experience was when the class took the CAT exam and I didn’t get a good score but passing. Looking the scores I wanted to do better I felt like I had a lot of work ahead of me. The bad thing is when the topic doesn’t interest me I don’t write a lot of details because I can’t seem to relate to it.
Overall the semester is going very smoothly. There might have been downsides but it resulted in learning something. There is still so much to learn because the goal is to pass the CAT and get ready for English 101. Being in class for this short period ive learned enough to find every possibility to be a good writer.

Everyone watches reality TV from adults to childrenof any age. The shows that they may watch seem harmless but there are hideden messages that make people think differently about their education, image, and competitive nature.  These qualities could turn for the worse by learning from these shows. All the simple dreams of going to school and being successful could be easily destroyed by showing easy and fun esapes. They use reality TV as an example of how adults and children could see their lives differently if they were on a reality show. People watch the drama and all they see is the glitz and glam but it is all read from a script.
Education is a very important role for the american dream of becoming successful. Reality shows make young minds think that it is much simpler to go on a reality show to make money which becomes their definition of successful. Without education it is possible to become who you want to but if it doesnt work out there isnt anything to fall back on. Getting on a reality show might be easier then going to school for many years and going to work. The question pops up "why would you go to school when its so easy to make money by eating something gross, something exciting or even embarass yourself." Getting on these reality shows and doing the challenges has no garuntee that you will win.
Image can be the reason why someone else got an interview, job or even as petty as a free soda. This message seems to be the most dangarous because the consequences that can happen when children and adults can be fatel. Reality shows show beautiful women and men, they appear so graceful and someone that is admired for their beauty. People try so hard to change themselves to look like them which can cause anorexia, bulemia, and even addiction to plastic surgery. Reality shows rather have atrractive people then people who are skilled and normal so they can attract more viewers. When i would watch tv at home i would see beautiful celebrities, that made me think i should go on a diet. This can happen to anyone just by watching reality shows.
Timothy Sexton stated that "Reality Television premotes the old belief that compitiion is the key to sucess in capital economy". Where ever you go there is some sort of compitition and not all compition is good. Compitition has many pro's and con's but on reality shows they show the players playing dirty and unfair. That kind of compitition isnt good to teach young kids. You would want them to play fair and learn how to compete nicely. Compitition does show how a person should thrive and challege themselves but playing fair is a common moral.
Reality Tv can be very harmful and can give people ideas in their head that can turn them in the wrong direction. The messages that they learn can be rash and also can make desicions too quickly without thinking. Some of these messages can really be fatel. People shouldnt use reality Tv as an easy escape.

The question taking the blue pill or the red pill really made me wonder, even when i was watching the movie this question popped up in my head. The choice i would have chosen is  the red pill, its the choice that is rebellious and thrilling. The reason why i would have picked the red pill is because i would always wondered what if i didnt take that pill and how it would have changed my life. The blue pill allows you to go back to the life you already knew but the red pill are new experiences new worlds and meanings. If i never took the red pill i would regreted it because there could have been more meaning and importance in my life. If i lived in the matrix it would be all fake and my goals and achievments would not matter at all

Blog 8: The Truman Show

The Truman Show is about a man who was born into a fake world but in actuality is a reality show all about him. He figures out that his whole life was a lie, his friends, his wife, and even his whole existence. Cristoff the creator and Truman’s “father” wanted to create a perfect world where there was no danger just real emotion. He put Truman’s life and his whole existence on national Television which is wrong without consent. After watching this movie I couldn’t believe what kind of deceit that had been wronged to him. Everyone deserves to live their lives how they please; no one should ever be deceived how Truman was deceived.
Our society may not be perfect but there is pure truth and reality. We live our lives how we please and work even harder to make it better. These true interactions with people real people can help how a person thinks and find out what they believe. The Truman show was unreal except Truman, all his friends and his family were reading from a script just saying things without truly meaning them. Basically Truman had been lied to, his whole existence. Even with my consent I would never live in a place like Sea haven it is too perfect, all smiles everything neat and tidy. I couldn’t live with myself how everyone would be artificial and reading off lines when I would talk it would be real and considerate. That lifestyle is unfair to Truman how he didn’t know what was going on and how he lived his so called ordinary life every day until he started suspecting something was up. All he wanted to do was to leave that little town and travel so he could see the world.
Cristoff wanted fake a society where he was safe, unharmed, and comfortable. He implies that the reality of the real world is too dangerous and all he wanted to see was real emotion from Truman and told Truman that there was nothing waiting for him. Cristoff put Truman in his fantasy world where he wanted to grow up. As a “father” cristoff wanted to protect him from what he went through. He used Truman as an example of what he really wanted as Cristoff was Truman. The problems he creates in trumans world are real but candy coated problems, it always has a touching solution.  In the movie they didn’t want Truman to find out he was in a show so they made him afraid of water by truamatizing him.
